Ex-Ala. politician caught in New Zealand sperm-donor scandal

A Christian conservative politician who ran unsuccessfully for Alabama governor in 2010 has been secretly donating sperm to lesbians in New Zealand while doing earthquake relief work there, a newspaper reports.

Bill Johnson, 52, had donated sperm to at least nine women, and at least three became pregnant, the New Zealand Herald reported.

Johnson has spent most of this year in Christchurch doing earthquake relief work. He moved to Christchurch after the February quake without his wife Kathy, a two-time Mrs. America finalist, the newspaper reported Sunday.

Bill Johnson ran unsuccessfully for Alabama governor in 2010.

Johnson used the alias ''chchbill'' on online donor registries to meet women wishing to get pregnant. The women contacted by the Herald say they met him through different sites. A number of the women were in same-sex relationships.

According to the newspaper:

The Herald on Sunday approached Johnson on Thursday at a restaurant in Christchurch where he had just finished dining with one of the women he had successfully impregnated.

He said the urge to become a biological father was "a need that I have."

"I am married to the most beautiful woman in the world. When I married her I knew we couldn't have any more children. She had a hysterectomy 10 years ago.

"There is nothing my wife would want to give me more in the world than a child of my own."

Johnson said he was not planning to tell his wife about the pregnancies until after the children were born.

Kathy Johnson declined to comment Sunday.

"This is a really, really difficult time for our family,” Kathy Johnson said in an email to the Mobile (Ala.) Press-Register. “I'm still in disbelief and very hurt, and our family has a lot of healing to do.”

According to the Press-Register, Johnson finished fifth among a field of seven candidates for governor in the 2010 GOP primary, capturing less than 2 percent of the vote. He ran as a conservative Christian who opposed gay marriage.

I always find it amusing that people love to pretend that The South has a monopoly on narrow-mindedness and hypocrisy. Seems that just about every time some moron opens his mouth to make that point, he proves himself wrong. Of course, you know what they say about pointing one finger at someone else.

What's that about finger pointing? Has anyone else noticed that Miker does his best finger pointing when he uses his second profile "SameolMike"? See, if you make a second profile (against the rules on Newsvine) you can apparently be as nasty as you want without damaging your first profile's reputation. Eh, Mike?

Miker-3057253- Please note that I am a Southern white male, born and raised in the South. I agree that the South has no monopoly on ignorance, intolerance, or bigotry. We do, unfortunately, heave more than our share of those kinds of people, IMO. I have lived in other parts of the country, and in a couple of foreign countries. There is no place like home for good old Southern fried ignorance. The Bible Belt mentality is responsible for a large part of it. But there are also a lot of well educated, open minded, and tolerant folks here too, just as there are "redneck fools" in places like Massachusetts. So you do make a valid point about stereotyping all Southern whites, but unfortunately, as I said before, the stereotype holds up far too much here.

Michael, I completely agree. I'm from a Southern state also and at times feel like an endangered species because I can use basic English grammar correctly and don't base my scientific and political opinions on what some "pastor" tells me that the Bible says. In short, I can think for myself, form my own opinions and express these opinions in a logical, coherent manner, and that is a rarity down here.

Michael, Vince, et al: Where do you guys LIVE??? I most definitely live in The South and have for some many years now - and I don't regularly encounter ignorance or bigotry any more frequently than I did when I lived and/or worked in the north. I've spent considerable time in most of the States and with very few isolated exceptions I've found people to be roughly the same EVERYWHERE. (Had a NY-er the other day tell me flat out that he "doesn't like black people.") I also lived overseas for several years and traveled to many foreign countries around the world. Let me tell ya, Americans from The South have nothing on some Europeans, and many Asians make the Klan seem like an outreach group!

Often seems to me that what people have a problem with regarding The South is the religious spin that gets put on things. On that count, I'll throw out one of my favorite sayings about church: Yes, churches are full of hypocrites, but there's always room for one more.

So, he just donated the sperm? Or, did he DONATE the sperm? Adultery is a felony in some states and, personally, favor the indictment for either GOP or DEM. Toss these felons in prison for a few years. Deprive them and their families an income. Force them to go on welfare. Make them lose their assets, homes. Keep the line moving.

Unknown-1839085 ~~ True, this man may not have broken any laws, but morally it sounds like he is totally bankrupt. Any trust that he has built with his wife, as well as other family members (not to mention friends) has now been tarnished, and could possibly never be repaired. This is a HUGE violation in the marriage.

If his wife (and him) wanted children so badly, why didn't he use a surrogate, and have a child that he and his wife could love and raise? Or even adopt a child? To me, it sounds like this guy is just a creep, and uses this 'legal' means by which to get his jollies. Pretty fishy sounding as far as I'm concerned.

He committed adultery. I hear that is against the law of God, according to the conservative christians, as well as technically illegal in a lot of places. Don't be fooled by the "sperm donor" headline. His contribution was not being made in a plastic cup. Those types of clinics do not allow the donors to meet the recipients for dinner. Donors and recipients are anonymous in a medical clinic. He was meeting lesbians who wish to get pregnant, and to bypass the medical screening and costs of a sperm bank clinic.

More dirt on this religious freak

Though Johnson had campaigned for governor on a conservative Christian platform which opposed same-sex marriage, the New Zealand Herald reports several of the women interviewed were in lesbian relationships. When pressed, Johnson only noted he did not know the "relationship status" of the women he donated to, according to the publication

Hypocrisy is the state of pretending to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that one does not actually have. Hypocrisy involves the deception of others and is thus a kind of lie.

The H word is all to common among the "Christian Conservatives". Their self righteous proclamations set them up for ridicule when their human flaws are revealed.

Official Alabama (extremist Republican and Christian) doesn't like illegal and legal aliens - education and civil rights and fair and balanced. It is only fair that New Zealand and ~190 other countries should prohibit exports of their gametes and other fruit of their loins.

It probably has less to do with the fact that he was a sperm donor, and more to do with the fact that A) in the bible this would still be an act of infidelity, as he was fathering "bastard" children, so to speak(not really though) regardless of method, and B) he was doing so with homosexuals, which anyone from the U.S. knows how much Christian Conservatives love homosexuals. Personally I say that if he has become open minded enough to aid those women in that respect, more power to him, but he still should have at least been courteous enough towards his wife to let her know.

Eugene Saxe - that's a real gentlemanly thing to say. How about we look at it another way. Let's say YOU are married - only you are shooting blanks. And you're wife is apparently desperate for a baby - she wants to fulfill this massive biological drive of hers.

You want to tell me that you wouldn't have ANY problem with your wife going out - behind your back, without consulting you - and going to some fertility clinic, getting herself inseminated with another guy's sperm - when you don't know anything about this guy. In fact, you have NO idea she's done it at all until you notice that gut of hers starting to stick out and she tells you - oh yeah honey, I'm five months pregnant.

Or maybe, she was cheap, and instead of going to the fertility clinic your wife found a good specimen, invited him to your HOME, whipped out the old turkey baster, had this guy jerk off in your bathroom, and then had him assist her in inseminating herself - in other words - in some way, shape or form, another man was in YOUR bed with your wife, and now she's got HIS kid in her womb.

If you try and say you wouldn't be the LEAST bit angry about it, that you wouldn't feel betrayed, furious, that you would just shrug and say - hey, it's HER womb and it's HER eggs, she can do WHATEVER she wants them - you are lying through your teeth. I don't know a single guy who would shrug it off if his girlfriend or wife did something like that behind his back.

This guy is nothing but a hypocritical jackhole - saying gay couples in america shouldn't be allowed to adopt, but then helping couples in NZ have kids - and doing it all without saying a thing to his wife. His wife has every right to be furious. If I was his wife - I would divorce him, bleed him dry financially - taking every cent I could get my hands on - and he would be lucky if I didn't cut his balls off.

IF he's changed his tune and gays/lesbians and them having children he should let it be known publicly in American rather it being breaking news in another country. He did'nt let his wife know what he was doing much less consult with her about it. It's technically not cheating but it is a betrayal of their marriage and her trust. Another cheat and a liar in g overnment. Lets do make sure he gets into what ever office he wants for the rest of his life so he can cheat and lie to all Americans!!??!!LOL
