We do, unfortunately, heave more than our share of those kinds of people, IMO. I have lived in other parts of the country, and in a couple of foreign countries. There is no place like home for good old Southern fried ignorance. The Bible Belt mentality is responsible for a large part of it. But there are also a lot of well educated, open minded, and tolerant folks here too, just as there are "redneck fools" in places like Massachusetts. So you do make a valid point about stereotyping all Southern whites, but unfortunately, as I said before, the stereotype holds up far too much here.

I'm from a Southern state also and at times feel like an endangered species because I can use basic English grammar correctly and don't base my scientific and political opinions on what some "pastor" tells me that the Bible says. In short, I can think for myself, form my own opinions and express these opinions in a logical, coherent manner, and that is a rarity down here.
